Privacy
Definitely is designed to keep your vocabulary yours. No user accounts, no third-party servers holding your words—just fast flashcards that stay on your devices.
What we store
Your vocabulary, flashcard progress, and preferences live on your device and sync to your iCloud account so you can back up and restore across devices. We never host your words on our own servers.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand product reliability and improve the experience. PostHog receives a random device identifier and high-level usage events (for example: how many words you add, notification choices, purchase attempts, and error logs).
We use Sentry for crash analytics to identify and fix issues that affect app stability. Sentry receives crash reports, error logs, and device information (such as device model, OS version, and app version) to help us diagnose and resolve problems.
We do not send your saved words, definitions, or sentences to analytics.
Suggestions & Definitions
When you enable "Suggest Words & Definitions," the words you type are sent directly from your device to datamuse.com (autocomplete) and dictionaryapi.dev (definitions). We do not see or store those requests.
Notifications
All notifications are created on your device. Reminder content is generated locally from your stored words. We do not send push tokens or notification content to our servers.
Purchases
All purchases run through Apple using StoreKit. We log non-sensitive purchase events to PostHog—product ID, price, and transaction status/ID—so we can track reliability. Apple handles all payment details.
Support emails
If you email support from inside the app, the message includes your PostHog device ID, the app version, and your iOS version. This helps us troubleshoot issues.
Children's privacy
This app is not intended for children under 13.
